2015 Domaine Georges Vernay Viognier ‘Le Pied De Samson’

George Vernay is the main reason that Viognier still exists today in its home of Condrieu in the Northern Rhone Valley. He was responsible for championing the grape and increasing planting to prevent it from dying out. The winery produces the best Viognier wines I have ever tasted and the reds are among the best the region has to offer.

‘Le Pied de Samson’ gives a great example of Condrieu to the George Vernay style, balancing the rich textural character of Viognier with fresh acidity and pristine fruit.

Style - Textural and complex, exciting white wine

Tell me about the grape - Viognier

A distinctive French white grape variety, that shows its greatest expressions in the small area of Condrieu in the Northern Rhone Valley, south of Lyon. A fuller bodied aromatic wine that shows lifted floral notes, with ripe peach and apricot aromas.
